秩父屋台囃子－髙野右吉と秩父社中
毎年12月2日・3日に行われる秩父夜祭で曳き回される山車の下層部で演奏される秩父屋台囃子。締め太鼓と大太鼓を打ち分け、山車を自在に操るように打ち鳴らす。船底のような狭い空間に詰め込まれた奏者達が打ち鳴らす熱気に満ちた演奏は、重さ20トンもある屋台山車の曳き手の呼吸を揃え、力づける大切な役目を担っている。
Chichibu Yatai-bayashi －Ukichi Takano and Chichibu Shachu
The Chichibu Yomatsuri Festival (Night Festival) is held every year on December 2-3. Chichibu Yatai-bayashi is the musical accompaniment played by performers seated on the lower levels of the floats dragged in the festival. The beats of the shime-daiko as well as larger drums almost seem to control the floats themselves at will. Packed inside a space as small as the bottom of a ship, the energetic playing of the performers serves a vital role in encouraging and aligning the breathing of the people who pull the massive yatai, which weigh as much as twenty tons.
